3 Herbal Remedies For Gout That Are Easy and Actually Work
A few years back, which feels like ions ago, I was a chronic sufferer of gout attacks. I would get 2-3 a year of these attacks and it would render me useless for literally days. I couldn’t walk because it felt like I was walking on glass. I would miss work. My husband would have to wait on me hand and foot (which was a perk, I have to admit!). I would go to the doctor and get the usual response….he would prescribe me NSAIDS and tell me to avoid certain foods. Little did I know that there was a more natural way to handle this problem. Here are several different herbal remedies for gout. Some will deal with pain and inflammation that it causes while others will focus on preventing it.
Nettle Root– Nettle root will help get the excessive uric acid out of your system. Because uric acid is the culprit that causes gout (everyone produces uric acid naturally; the problem comes when you produce more than you can eliminate). It encourages the kidneys to eliminate it. You can buy nettle root at your local health food store like an organic grocery (not GNC) but you will want to make sure that the product is made with concentrated nettle root extract. Take the product 3 times a day, 250 mg at a time.
Fish oil– You could be like some countries and simply eat a lot of cold water fish (which is what I suggest) but if you don’t have a taste for salmon or cod, you can always take fish oil in a capsule form. Fish oil is great because it helps reduce inflammation, particularly in the joints. It is especially good for all kinds of arthritis, not just gout. If you decide to take a fish oil product and opt out of eating it naturally, make sure that the capsules contain at least 480 mg of EPA and 360 mg of DHA. Both of these “acids” will help you get your fill of omega 3’s for optimum inflammation reduction.
Bromelain– Bromelain can be found in high doses in pineapple stems and is a natural blood thinner (which means it could work for headaches too!). The properties in bromelain help your body process proteins by increasing protein digestive enzymes. Some studies have found it to be as effective as using a nonsteriodal anti-inflammatory medication for the treatment of all forms of arthritis. This makes bromelain the perfect solution for treating the inflammation that is created by gout. You will want to take this between meals,3 times a day, 500 mg per dosage.
There you have it. 3 herbal remedies for gout that will save you a visit to the doctor.
