According to the dictionary, it could mean: a particular selection of food, especially as designed or prescribed to improve a persons physical condition or to prevent or treat a disease: a diet low in sugar.

Or another definition of diet can be: such a selection or a limitation on the amount a person eats for reducing weight: No pie for me, Im on a diet.

In my opinion these two definitions are not interchangeable and knowing the reasons and goals behind what you eat can lead you to making smart choices about the foods you eat.

I prefer to use the first definition as in my personal experience this will prevent gaining weight unnecessarily or prevent a condition where I might get sick. And this also helps at once with the health of my skin.

The skin is the first organ to show signs of poor nutrition like, pale dry skin, lacking luster and suppleness. The reason is because it is the last organ to receive nutrients from the body. In the bodys hierarchy, this means that the skin is not a vital organ, however, we know that this is not the case.

You can, by eating a wide variety of foods that include different proteins, vegetables and fruits, improve your overall health and the health of your skin. Doing this can lead to younger, supple and more radiant looking skin.

You should also consider adding supplements to your diet as not all foods contain the needed nutrients and depending on your lifestyle you might need more. However, you should consult a nutritional expert as this person can help you tweak your diet so it really benefits you and your skin.

Being Organized- Message from My Garden

I hate to waste time, money or energy to find in the messy things. That is a reason that I like being organized. I can’t bear that I missed any chances due to nasty sensation in the pit of my stomach.



In recent years I’ve discovered the joys of having my own vegetable garden. It’s a great feeling to wander out the back door and pick your own salad or herbs to go with dinner. The price is right and the flavor can’t be beat! But, I’ve learned that in order to take full advantage of this opportunity, I HAVE to be organized.


I live in the Northeast, where our growing season is only from mid-May to the end of October (early November if we’re lucky.) I would prefer to start as much as possible from seed, because the savings and variety available are so much better. Some lessons I’ve learned over the years:


– If I don’t plan carefully, my plants will either be too small to go out at the ideal time (or they’ll be overgrown) and I’ll have to pay significantly more to buy them at the garden shop (or do without.)

– If I don’t spread my fertilizer early enough, then it will be too strong and damage my plants.

– Planting cover crops way back in the fall will go a long way towards a better crop next season.

– Also, if I wait too long to buy manure, there won’t be any left. (Because all the other gardeners beat me to it!)

– If I don’t plan & plot out my gardens beds, I won’t be able to make the most efficient use of my space.


Now, you may not be the least bit interested in gardening, and that’s fine, but consider for a minute some of the applications this has to other opportunities in life.

– It’s the dead of winter, and it feels like spring will never come, but you know it will eventually. What do you have to do to be prepared? (Or for summer, or fall, or winter… you know what I mean.)

– Sure, you can sometimes manage to catch up if you procrastinate, but at what cost?

– What lessons did you learn from the last time around? Have you made an effort to apply them and improve you system for this time?

– What tasks need to be done when for the best use of your time, money & energy? Do you have a system in place to help remind you?

– What planning ahead do you need to do to make the most of any opportunities that may come your way?


Like I always say, organizing is not an end in and of itself, it’s a means to an end. I hope considering these questions and their answers will help us all to make the most of the gifts we’ve been given.



P.S. I’ve also learned that plants don’t care how they’re organized. They’ll grow whether the rows are straight, crooked or zig-zaggy. One less thing to worry about!

There is an extremely high standard of mapping available in this country and we are extremely lucky to be able to use highly detailed Ordinance Survey maps wherever we go. With practice these maps can tell us everything we need to know to get ourselves from A to B safely. However one area that often seems to cause confusion is the different ways paths are marked on Ordinance Survey maps; a better knowledge of when each symbol is used will soon improve your ability to find your way across the hills. 
On a 1:25,000 Ordinance Survey map public rights of way in England and Wales are marked with green dashes (short dashes for footpaths and long for bridleways) but it is very important to remember that this means only that there is an ancient common law right to pass along this route at all times. It does not mean that you will necessarily be able to see the path to follow it. Definitive maps of the rights of way were drawn up by county councils in the 1950s and many are now long since disused and overgrown and, even in good visibility, can be difficult or impossible to find. 
Other paths which are not designated rights of way are marked on the Ordinance Survey maps as short black dashes. If these paths are within the newly designated access land you are perfectly within your rights to walk along them. These paths are marked on the map because at the time of the aerial survey used to create this map they were visible on the ground; they have usually been made by thousands of feet walking along the same line. They are often the most direct route from summit to summit or from the summit to the valley because they have been created by humans going where they want to go. 
For hill walkers the problem with this system is that the green dashes of the public highways stand out clearly on the map and often give the impression that these paths are more important or bigger than the black dashed paths, however often the opposite is true. You should never assume that a path is going to be easy or even possible to find but this is particularly true for the public rights of way. A black dashed line on the other hand tells you that particular path was visible on the ground at the time of making the map and chances are it still is. 
When following any path you should continually compare the map to the ground you are covering to make sure the path really is going the same way as the dashes on the map. Paths change over time and could have changed since your map was last updated. Do not rely on paths and always be prepared to use a compass if the path you are following disappears or goes off in the wrong direction.
